When you make a forældrekøb (parental purchase), it's the parents who buy and finance the home for their child or children. However, it can quickly become an expensive affair if you haven't laid out a sensible plan and considered other options.
Watch out for the many pitfalls when making a parental purchase. Christopher Wagner, buyer's agent and partner at Bomae, spoke with Børsen about the pitfalls and why a three-room flat in Vanløse rather than a two-room flat in Frederiksberg can make sense.
Keep an overview of the finances. A parental purchase is, for most people, a major investment, and typically you will need to take out additional loans to be able to help your child or children.
That's why it's also important to put together the right financing, so the purchase works out both for you as parents and for the child. With a financial adviser, you can get a complete overview of the consequences of taking out additional loans or restructuring an existing loan.

Parental purchase and location. One of the considerations when looking for a suitable property for a parental purchase could be to look further away from the city centre. For example, areas such as Valby, Vanløse, Brønshøj, and so on can prove to be quite sensible choices. Precisely because you get more for your money, you can even consider a 3-room flat instead of a 2-room flat. This way, you've also future-proofed the flat and perhaps even made it possible to share it.
It may be that 100,000 kr. doesn't sound like much in the long run, but remember that you have to earn double that amount to pay it. That could buy quite a lot of DSB train tickets. By simply shifting your search criteria a little further out from the city centre, there can be big jumps in prices.
